McAlester man charged after standoff

Brian Anderson

A McAlester man who barricaded himself inside a residence on Friday, March 7, told officers he was armed and that “today was the day” before he was arrested hours later by a tactical team.

Pittsburg County Jail records show that Brian Michael Anderson, 36, was charged Monday with felony counts of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, malicious injury or destruction of property $1,000 or more, and misdemeanor counts of domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor and obstructing an officer.

Anderson was being held Tuesday on a $50,000 bond, according to jail records.

An affidavit filed in the case states that officers responded on March 7 to a residence on East Comanche for a report of a domestic assault.

After the officers arrived, Anderson ran inside the residence before speaking to an officer briefly before slamming and locking the door, the report states.

According to the affidavit, Anderson allegedly assaulted a woman and a minor before knocking the windows out of a truck.

An official with the McAlester Fire Department spoke with Anderson on the phone, who told the official that if he came out of the house, “he would have a firearm and that today was the day,” the affidavit states.

After assistance was requested by the McAlester Police Department, a tactical team from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded and took Anderson into custody after 9 p.m. Friday evening and ended the nearly five-hour long standoff.
