McAlester City Council Approves Airport Project and More at Meeting

The McAlester City Council met Tuesday evening for their first of two regularly scheduled meetings with a couple of headlines. McAlester Regional Airport will soon start a major renovation of its taxiway and electrical systems, with the city covering only a small portion of the cost.

The Council also approved $199,800 for engineering design services. The total project cost is $1.66 million, with $579,150 from the FAA, $1 million from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics, and the City’s share being $83,114. The City’s design costs will be reimbursed in the next grant cycle.

Mayor John Browne highlighted the value of the project, noting the significant return on a relatively small investment. This renovation complements the ongoing $2.7 million terminal expansion, set to be completed by November.

The city council will meet again on September 24th at 6 p.m. in the council chambers on the first floor of City Hall at 28 E Washington Ave.
