Early voting for April 1 elections underway

Early voting for several local elections in Pittsburg County is now underway.

Voters who will not be able to make it to the polls on Election Day have the option of voting early at the Pittsburg County Election Board.

“You do not need to provide an excuse to vote early. Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted by the County Election Board or State Election Board—from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections,” Pittsburg County Election Board Secretary Tonya Barnes said in a press release. “This is a great option for those who will be out of town on Election Day or who want to avoid long lines.

Early voting is available Thursday, March 27, and Friday, March 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Pittsburg County Election Board located at 7 E Chickasaw Ave in McAlester. Barnes reminds voters that early voting is not available at polling locations.

Municipal elections will be held in the following Pittsburg County towns and cities: Krebs, Hartshorne, Haileyville, Kiowa, and Quinton.

Pittsburg County school boards with elections on the ballot are Savanna and Indianola.

County school districts with a bond proposition on the ballot include Krebs, Haileyville, Indianola, and Kiowa. According to state law, school bond propositions must garner more than 60% of the vote in order to pass.

Some voters may need assistance to vote because they are blind or visually disabled, physically disabled or infirmed, or illiterate.  Such individuals may request to have an assistant or vote privately and independently using the ATI device attached to the voting device. Those who require assistance should talk to their precinct official or contact the County Election Board directly for instructions.
