A Hartshorne woman has been charged after investigators say a reported burglary at a McAlester home led to her arrest.
Brittany Nichole McKay, 37, is charged in Pittsburg County District Court with larceny from a house.
According to an affidavit, officers were called May 29, 2025, to a home on South Strong Boulevard in McAlester in reference to a reported burglary. The homeowner told officers a blue shop fan had been taken from an enclosed porch.
The victim reported the porch had been closed and secured, with no signs of forced entry, but the fan was missing when he arrived home. He told officers he allegedly saw McKay in the area carrying what appeared to be the fan and said he recognized her from previous encounters.
A warrant was later issued in the case.
Separate court records show McKay was charged in January 2026 with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
In that case, she entered a not guilty plea but failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing, leading to a bench warrant. Records indicate she was taken into custody in April after the warrant was served.
Court records also show a prior case from 2022 in which McKay was charged with obstructing and resisting an officer. She later entered a guilty plea and received a suspended sentence, but records indicate repeated failures to appear during follow-up proceedings led to multiple bench warrants over the course of the case.
She is currently being held on a cumulative bond of $27,000 in all cases.
