A Haileyville man is under arrest after prosecutors filed multiple felony domestic violence charges accusing him of assaulting and strangling the alleged victim in this case.
Dakotah James Stiles, 29, is charged in Pittsburg County District Court with domestic abuse by prior pattern of physical abuse, domestic assault and battery by strangulation, domestic abuse-assault and battery and interrupting an emergency telephone call.
According to a probable cause affidavit, McAlester police responded May 22 to a reported disturbance at a residence on East Delaware Avenue.
Investigators reported officers later located the alleged victim crying and visibly distressed near Casey’s General Store. The victim told police she had been involved in a physical altercation with Stiles.
According to the affidavit, the victim told officers the confrontation began after she asked Stiles to move his bicycle. Stiles then allegedly slapped, shoved and kicked the woman before wrapping his legs around her body and choking her with both hands.
Investigators reported the victim told officers she struggled to breathe and believed she was going to lose consciousness during the alleged assault.
The affidavit also states Stiles allegedly threw the victim’s phone at a wall, preventing her from calling 911.
Police reported visible injuries including an open cut on the back of the victim’s neck and redness beneath both ears. Authorities later located and arrested Stiles near the 69 RV Park in McAlester.
Court records show Stiles has multiple prior domestic abuse convictions in Pittsburg County dating back to 2015, including prior cases involving assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault and battery by strangulation.
He is currently being held over on a $50,000 bond.
