McAlester City Council Approves Street Name Change and More at Monthly Meeting

The McAlester City Council met Tuesday evening to discuss several topics and covered many agenda items. One notable item that was approved was an additional $300,000 and one year added to the previously set $1.5 million over five years to the Southeast Oklahoma Library System.

Mayor John Browne shared his thoughts after the item was approved.

The council also approved renaming what is now formally Kiowa Ave. to James Beaty Ave, to honor the late journalist who worked at the McAlester News-Capital for over 35-years. Beaty is also a member of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of fame.
