The McAlester Defense Support Association (MDSA) recently concluded its successful McAlester Stampede event, which featured important discussions at the Pentagon and a well-attended VIP reception hosted by Senator James Lankford. MDSA Executive Director Dr. Stephen E. Smith highlighted the event’s success, noting productive meetings with congressional leaders, defense officials, and military personnel on key issues affecting the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (McAAP) and the region’s economy.
The group addressed vital topics, including bomb line upgrades, infrastructure improvements, microgrid implementation, and federal hiring challenges. They also raised concerns about rising healthcare costs for federal workers. McAAP, McAlester’s largest employer, plays a key role in national security and local employment.
MDSA thanked the Oklahoma delegation, including Senators Lankford and Mullin and Representatives Brecheen, Hern, Bice, and Cole, for their continued support. The event reaffirmed the region’s commitment to advancing defense initiatives and strengthening ties with federal partners.
