For the first time in more than 30 years, Choctaw citizens living in Choctaw Nation District 12 will have a new tribal councilor.
According to unofficial results from the Choctaw Nation Election Board, Regina Mabray received 587 votes, with Vickie McClure receiving 184 votes.
“We did it,” Mabrey said in a social media post after the results were posted. “I’m incredibly honored to be elected to serve as your councilwoman for District 12!”
McClure thanked her supporters and congratulated Mabrey on her campaign Facebook page.
“I congratulate Council Member Elect Mabray and am always available to assist in sharing any knowledge from my years of service across our communities that can benefit our tribal members,” McClure said.
Once the results are certified, Mabrey will be sworn in during the Choctaw Nation Labor Day Festival in Tvshka Homma.
Mabrey will take the reins from current Tribal Council member James Frazier, who has served the citizens of District 12 for 34 years.
