Two men charged with embezzlement from local scrap yard

Charges were filed this week against two McAlester men following an embezzlement investigation at a local scrap yard.

Records show Johnny Montes, 46, and Jason Crittenden, 51, were each charged with embezzlement by employee, forgery in the second degree, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Jail records show Crittenden was booked and released Thursday from the Pittsburg County Jail on his own recognizance with an arrest warrant remaining active for Montes.

An affidavit filed in the case states the investigation began after District Attorney Chuck Sillivan requested assistance from the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation with an embezzlement investigation. The request was made after Yaffe    Companies, Inc. showed a loss of profit from the Krebs location after hiring Crittenden as a manager.

Documents presented to the OSBI show customers were allegedly compensated for additional items, despite receiving no such payments, along with inconsistent customer signatures, the affidavit states.

Investigators wrote in the report that Montes was approached by Crittenden and agreed to participate in the fraudulent scheme, with both men conspiring “to produce falsified purchase tickets and to share the proceeds obtained through these fraudulent payoffs.”

“To support these claims, Yaffee Companies, Inc. referenced surveillance footage that captured at least one of the fraudulent transactions taking place,” the report states.

A review of the documents submitted by the company showed the total amount fraudulently obtained was $12,664.40.
