Candidates interested in filing for Mayor – Unexpired Term of the City of Hartshorne will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning 8 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2026.
Those who wish to file for a municipal office must submit a Declaration of Candidacy to the Pittsburg County Election Board February 9th, 10th or 11th, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Candidate filing packets are available on the State Election Board website at https://oklahoma.gov/elections/candidates/candidate-filing.html and at the County Election Board.
In addition to the Declaration of Candidacy, candidates must also submit a Voter Registration Verification Form, which can be obtained from the County Election Board or by logging into the OK Voter Portal at https://oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp.html. Information on the Voter Registration Verification Form must match the information provided on the Declaration of Candidacy.
Tonya Barnes, Secretary of the Pittsburg County Election Board, reminds candidates that Contests of Candidacy must be filed no later than 5 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2026 and may only be filed by another candidate for that office, unless a candidate files unopposed. Contests against unopposed candidates may be filed by contacting the County Election Board.

The Pittsburg County Election Board is located at 1609 N Strong Blvd. Ste 200, McAlester OK 74501 and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday unless otherwise stated. During filing period the office is open 8a.m. to 5 p.m..
The special election is scheduled for April 7, 2026.
