City official reports continued discussions with developers exploring retail, housing and industrial expansion opportunities in McAlester.
According to the January report from the City of McAlester, early-stage conversations are underway with two separate data centers, along with a proposed mixed-use development that could include lodging, a convention center, retail space and multifamily housing.
Interest also remains active in the Steven Taylor Industrial Park, where city staff continue providing site data and coordination support to prospective investors.
Current projects include continued progress by Academy and approval of the American Li-Ion deed transfer at the Jan. 13 council meeting.
City officials are also working to recruit a new upper-midscale hotel and recently compiled data in support of federal BUILD grant components tied to infrastructure planning.
Staff will represent McAlester at the upcoming ICSC Red River Conference in San Antonio and the 2026 Technical Summit in Hochatown in partnership with Choctaw Nation and regional economic development partners.
Officials said the level of inquiries and site visits reflects sustained momentum across multiple sectors.
