McAlester City Council To Review Inmate Labor Contract, Capital Improvement Plan Tuesday

The McAlester City Council will meet Tuesday in the Council Chambers to consider several items, including a contract for inmate labor crews and a presentation on the city’s long-term capital improvement plan.

Council members are scheduled to consider authorizing the mayor to sign an amended Prisoners Public Works Project Contract with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections for the continued use of inmate labor crews on public works projects.

The council will also hear a presentation on the Fiscal Year 2026 through Fiscal Year 2031 Capital Improvement Plan, which outlines potential infrastructure and development priorities for the city.

Other agenda items include approving a $52,551 pay application to Lowe Construction for work on Mullen Park improvements and accepting completion of the Steven Taylor Industrial Park sewer improvements project, along with a final payment of $74,976.25 to Lone Hickory Cattle LLC.

Council members will also consider creating a director-level project management position for city staff.

Following the meeting, council members will convene as the McAlester Airport Authority, McAlester Public Works Authority and McAlester Economic Development Authority before potentially entering executive session to discuss the sale of property in the city’s industrial park.

The meeting once again will take place Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at McAlester City Hall, located at 28 E. Washington.
