Library Project Leads Monthly City Report

The major investment in the city’s public library and continued infrastructure work highlighted the latest city manager’s report for February.

City officials said the partnership with the Choctaw Nation and the Southeast Oklahoma Library System will bring a 3,500-square-foot coworking and business center to the McAlester Public Library. The project will include business resources, high-speed internet access, and upgrades to improve accessibility and expand STEM learning spaces.

The report also outlines ongoing infrastructure improvements, including waterline work, stormwater projects, and wildfire mitigation efforts. Officials say the city recently completed its first firebreak as part of those efforts.

Economic development remains active, with construction continuing on Academy Sports and progress reported in the city’s industrial park. As previously reported, additional projects including a proposed hotel and new retail development are also under discussion.

City Manager Ken Wimer says the month of February reflects strong partnerships and continued momentum across multiple areas of the city.
