A McAlester man is facing felony charges following an investigation into alleged fraudulent activity tied to an alcohol beverage license application.
Markis Dewayne Curtis, 35, is charged in Pittsburg County District Court with offering a forged or false instrument for record and a computer crime. He was arrested on a warrant on Tuesday, April 28.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission, the investigation centers on an application submitted for a business operating as BW Gas & Convenience Retail in Krebs.
Investigators reported the application was submitted through the state’s ABLE Commission system and included information that Curtis had not been convicted of certain offenses.
Authorities say a review of records showed Curtis had prior felony convictions, including assault and aggravated assault and battery on a law enforcement officer.
The affidavit states Curtis used an online licensing portal to submit the application and allegedly provided false information in order to obtain an employee alcohol license.
Investigators also reported Curtis was actively working at the business and using the license obtained through the application.
Authorities say the investigation involved reviewing employment records, court documents and information submitted through the licensing system.
Curtis was also charged earlier in April for larceny of lost property. He is currently being held on a $25,000 bond.
