McAlester Man Charged In Child Sexual Abuse Investigation

A McAlester man is facing a felony charge after an investigation into allegations involving a minor.

Monte Lee Swearingen, 44, and a registered sex offender, is charged in Pittsburg County District Court with lewd or indecent acts with a child under 16.

According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies were called March 20, 2026, to a home on Tannehill Road in McAlester after a report was made that a child had disclosed inappropriate contact.

The affidavit also alleges that a family member was aware of the abuse and told the child not to tell anyone about it.

Investigators reported the allegations were brought forward by a different family member, who told authorities the child described an incident allegedly involving inappropriate contact from Swearingen.

The affidavit states the child was later interviewed at a child advocacy center, where the allegations were further detailed.

Authorities say Swearingen was later interviewed, denied the allegations, and requested an attorney, ending questioning.

Court records show a petition for a protective order was filed March 23, 2026, against the family member who allegedly knew about the abuse to the minor.

Court records also show Swearingen has a prior felony conviction from 2014 for procuring or possessing child pornography. He entered a guilty plea in that case and was sentenced to six years in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, with all but one year suspended, and was required to register as a sex offender.

Swearingen is currently being held over on a $50,000 bond.
