Maryland Man Charged After Unauthorized Bail Enforcement Attempt

A Maryland man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he unlawfully detained a man along the Indian Nation Turnpike near McAlester while posing as a bail enforcement agent.

George H. Heckstall Jr., 53, of Elkton, Maryland, is charged in Pittsburg County District Court with kidnapping, acting as a bail enforcer without a license, violating the Bail Enforcement and Licensing Act and falsely impersonating a public officer.

Michael Lloyd was also arrested in the case and later posted a $15,000 bond.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were called May 7, 2026, to mile marker 80 after reports of two bondsmen fighting with a handcuffed man on the roadside.

Investigators reported officers found Christopher Olson in handcuffs and leg shackles beside a pickup truck. Authorities say Heckstall and Lloyd claimed they were transporting Olson after locating him earlier that day at a Greyhound bus stop in McAlester.

The affidavit states Olson told investigators the men grabbed him, placed a Taser against his back and allegedly forced him into the truck before he later attempted to escape along the turnpike.

Authorities say the men told officers Olson had warrants out of Mississippi. Investigators later confirmed through NCIC that Olson did have extraditable warrants and he was taken into custody by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

However, investigators reported Heckstall did not possess a valid Oklahoma bail enforcement license and was allegedly prohibited from holding one due to a prior felony conviction in Maryland.

Authorities also reported the identification card Heckstall used appeared to be purchasable online, and a Taser was recovered during the investigation.

Heckstall is currently being held over on a $25,000 bond, and his next court date is Thursday, May 11.
