On Thursday, October 17th, the Military Vehicle Preservation Association’s Jefferson Highway Convoy will make a significant stop in McAlester, arriving at 11:00 AM. This event presents a rare chance for the public to view the convoy up close as it retraces the historic route of the Jefferson Highway, originally established in 1915, which runs from the Minnesota-Canadian border to New Orleans.
The convoy will travel along Business 69/Main St, known as the Jefferson Highway, and will be escorted by local law enforcement before arriving at the Boys & Girls Club – Al J Horton Special Event Center for a welcoming ceremony at 11:30 AM.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to gather in Old Town or along the highway to greet the convoy as it passes through McAlester. The vehicles will be on display until 2:00 PM, allowing attendees to interact with the participants and appreciate the restored military vehicles.
This year’s journey marks the eighth transcontinental convoy organized by the MVPA, celebrating the 15th anniversary of this program. The convoy includes 36 registered teams from various states and countries, highlighting the importance of preserving military transportation history.
