New Freezer Enhances Senior Nutrition Services at J.I. Stipe Center

The City of McAlester and the Senior Nutrition Center thank generous donors—Puterbaugh Foundation, McGowan Family Foundation, Fugitt Foundation, and Forster Cattle Company—for funding a new freezer at the J.I. Stipe Center. This upgrade enhances the Center’s food storage capacity, supporting community events, senior programs, and meal services.

“Thanks to our local organizations, we’re able to improve services for everyone,” said Parks and Recreation Director Doug Basinger. The City’s Senior Nutrition Program, serving seniors for over 25 years, now delivers 290 meals daily. The old freezer, over 25 years old, was frequently breaking down and costly to repair.

The City invites residents to visit the J.I. Stipe Center and see the impact of these donations. The Senior Center offers lunch at 11:30 a.m. for a $2 donation, and seniors (60+) can sign up by calling 918-715-3442. Activities include bingo, fitness classes, games, and guest speakers.
