Former Pittsburg County Sheriff Chris Morris had three felony charges dismissed Wednesday after reaching a plea deal. The move comes less than a week after Morris’ resignation letter was accepted by the Pittsburg County Commissioners on Jan. 2 as part of a 2024 settlement.
Morris was initially charged with felony embezzlement of state property and two counts of bribery by a public official. Court documents show Morris pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of embezzlement for selling a personally owned UTV to the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office.
As part of the deal, the three felony charges were dropped. Morris was sentenced to pay a $500 court fine and $600 in restitution. He also received a two-year deferred sentence with no supervision.
