McAlester Prepares for Winter Storms, Advises Caution on Roads

The City of McAlester is preparing for possible winter storms and urges residents to avoid driving unless necessary. The city’s Streets Department has equipment ready, including salt spreaders and plows, to treat roads during icy conditions.

City Manager Dave Andren said, “Our Streets Department is committed to keeping city streets safe, but if you don’t need to be on the roads, it’s best to stay home.”

Priority one streets for treatment include Electric Avenue, Strong Boulevard, Wyandotte/Wade Watts Avenue, South Street, V. Hubert Smith Dr., and Peaceable Rd. near U.S. HWY 69.

Secondary streets will be treated afterward. U.S. Highway 270 and other state roads are managed by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

Residents can view the full street clearing map on the city’s website.
