After a three-week vacancy, the McAlester Board of Education approved hiring a new head football coach during Monday’s meeting. Jeff Craig, former head coach at Blanchard and Del City, accepted the position Friday and was officially named McAlester’s 33rd head coach.
Craig, who spent 18 years as head coach at 4A Blanchard, won two state championships (2012, 2023) and compiled a 145-67 record (68.3%). He had a winning record in 14 of his 18 seasons and missed the playoffs just twice.
Craig will take over a McAlester program that is coming off a playoff appearance, that saw them lose 14-0 to Claremore in the first round at home. Craig will also appear with Athletic Director James Singleton on 98.3 KNED at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on Running with the Herd with Brandon Green.
