The City of McAlester is renovating the Jeff Lee Pool, as announced by the McAlester Parks and Recreation Facebook page Tuesday. The latest renovation, which totals nearly $100,000, will improve safety and accessibility for residents of all ages.
Upgrades will include new gutters, repairs to large sections of the deck, filling cracks in the pool, and the installation of a new drain cover.
“Jeff Lee Pool has been a cornerstone of our community for nearly a century,” said Doug Basinger, Community Services director. “These renovations will ensure that families can continue to make memories here for years to come.”
The City of McAlester typically spends between $100,000 and $200,000 each year to maintain its pools, excluding staffing costs. This renovation is part of the city’s ongoing effort to improve its recreational facilities while staying within budget.
Renovations began last week and are expected to be completed in five weeks. The city aims to finish the project in time for the upcoming swimming season, which will be announced later.
