Filing period for open Choctaw Nation District 5 seat begins next week

The Choctaw Nation will hold a special election in July to fill the vacancy for the Tribal Council seat representing District 5. The election winner will serve the remaining two years of the term.

District 5 encompasses tribal members living in Haskell County and parts of Pittsburg and LeFlore Counties.

According to the amended Election Calendar 2025, prospective candidates may file in person from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 21, 22, and 23 at the Choctaw Nation Headquarters, Ibaiachvffa (Membership) Room #1251, 1802 Chukka Hina Durant, OK 74701.

The election will take place on Saturday, July 12, 2025. The timing of the election will align with the previously scheduled general election.

Ron Perry resigned from the District 5 seat on April 1. The position will remain open until the election, according to the tribe.
