Keep McAlester Beautiful will host a one-day hazardous waste collection event on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 301 E. Polk Ave., offering residents a chance to safely dispose of a variety of dangerous household items.
The event, held in conjunction with the organization’s annual spring cleanup, will accept items such as oil-based paints, solvents, waxes, motor oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, kerosene, diesel, gasoline, and other automotive fluids. Residents can also drop off cleaning chemicals, wood stains, fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, and herbicides.
Additional accepted items include all types of batteries, electronics, metal, tires, thermometers, mercury switches, prescriptions, needles, and syringes.
A limited amount of bulk trash will be accepted during Saturday’s event.
