Families invited to Juneteenth Jubilee at Hunter Park


The McAlester community is invited to join in a vibrant celebration of freedom, culture, and unity at the Juneteenth Jubilee, taking place Thursday, June 19, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hunter Park, 1401 E Chickasaw Ave.

This free, family-friendly event honors the spirit of Juneteenth with an evening full of joy, history, and community connection.

Attendees can look forward to:  A lively parade, antique car show, appearances by the African American motorcycle riders, of Hugo, a curated Artist Alley featuring talent from across Oklahoma, local food trucks offering a variety of flavors, a competitive 5v5 basketball tournament (interested participants should contact Mike Smith at the McAlester Public Library 918-426-0930), musical entertainment, a carnival with fun for all ages, access to health and wellness resources, and more!

“We’re excited to bring our community together to honor the legacy of Juneteenth and celebrate through art, music, food, and fellowship,” said Regina Turner, event coordinator.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and serves as a day of reflection, education, and celebration.
