Economic Development Update in City Manager's June Report.

McAlester is moving forward with a slate of economic and infrastructure projects aimed at driving growth, according to City Manager Dave Andren’s June report.

The Mid-McAlester TIF District #2 took effect July 1, paving the way for new development. Amazon’s “Last Mile” facility remains on schedule, with hiring set to begin in September. The City is also finalizing the sale of the historic Kreb’s Brewery site.

Housing development is gaining traction, with a local developer planning 200 moderately priced homes. Union Pacific is eyeing industrial use at the Steven Taylor Industrial Park.

Construction is progressing on several retail projects, including Popeyes and HTeaO. RaceTrac Fuels continues evaluating a new service center, and city staff recently visited Glenpool and Bixby to study a potential mixed-use development including hotels, housing, and retail.

McAlester’s new airport terminal is also nearly complete, and infrastructure work continues at the Wastewater Treatment Plant and on sewer expansions.

City leaders are also considering new ordinances to support maintenance costs for the airport and rail infrastructure. Downtown business owners are encouraged to contact the Economic Development Director about possible incentives.

“Our city is building momentum,” Andren said. “These projects reflect a strong foundation for McAlester’s future.”
