The Pittsburg County Free Fair will bring several family-friendly events to the Southeast Expo Center next week.
Events range from the Aggie Olympics on Thursday, Sept. 4, to the livestock shows on Sept. 6.
A list of free events is as follows:
Thursday, Sept. 4:
A talent show will be held on Thursday, with check in held at 5 p.m. in room 101 of the Expo Center. The talent show categories range from 3-year-olds through adults. An entry fee of $5 for individual acts and $10 for group acts. All fees paid will go back to the winners.
Magician Marty Westerman will give a free performance at 5 p.m. before the talent show.
The FFA Auctioneering Contest will be held Thursday evening, following the talent show. Each contestant will auction two items to the general public. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Pittsburg County Junior Livestock Show held in the Spring.
Friday, Sept. 5:
Youth Day begins at 9 a.m. and will feature demonstrations by the McAlester Fire Department, Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Department, McAlester/Pittsburg County Emergency Management Beekeepers Association, and the McAlester Library. There will also be free performances from Magician Marty Westerman and Boocoos the Clown. Kids can also visit a petting zoo and the Clydesdales.
The Bo Posey Band will begin performing at 6:30 p.m. inside the Expo hall. The band is the opening act for the Bo Phillips Band. The event is free.
Saturday, Sept. 6:
The chili cook-off is a favorite of chili lovers and a great time to earn braggin’ rights on who makes the best chili. The Pittsburg County Cattlewomen is sponsoring the event to be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in the Expo kitchen. Anyone can enter. There will be four categories and two age divisions. Cash prizes will be awarded along with a people’s choice award.
Judging contests and a tractor driving contest will be held on Thursday and Friday morning for 4-H, FFA, and FCCLA members.
