McAlester man charged with extortion

Charley Lee Gauthier

A McAlester man was charged in Choctaw Nation District Court with several counts after police said he found nude images of a woman and attempted to extort her.

Records show Charley Lee Gauthier, 26, was charged with felony counts of extortion and communicate/store/retrieve data from a computer with unlawful intent, along with misdemeanor counts of engaging in prostitution and threatening an act of violence.

According to the affidavit filed in the case, a woman told police that an unknown user, whom she believed to be Gauthier, messaged nude photos of her to her Facebook account and offered to pay for more images, threatening the woman to post her old photos online if she didn’t. The user also threatened to kill the woman and offered $500 for sex, the report states.

Investigators were later told that Gauthier posted photos of the woman on his personal Facebook page, the affidavit states.

After Gauthier was taken into custody on an unrelated matter, he declined to speak with investigators about the allegations, and his phone was taken as evidence, the report said.

Investigators wrote in the affidavit that a search warrant was obtained for the phone, and a search found the nude images of the woman, along with internet searches on how to delete/deactivate a Facebook account and CashApp history.

He is next due in court in December.
