A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday to celebrate the opening of an 8,100-square-foot addition to the existing Choctaw Nation Head Start facility. The expansion transforms the site into a complete Child Development Center.
The new facility includes four classrooms designed for infants, 1-year-olds, 2-year-olds, and preschool-aged children. Made possible through $6 million in grant funding, the project expands access to early childhood education in the community.
The addition created 20 new local jobs and increased capacity to serve 53 more children. The center and Head Start program now provide care and education for 86 children.
“This new Child Development Center is truly a blessing for McAlester. It gives our working parents peace of mind knowing their children have a safe, state-of-the-art place to learn and grow,” said Choctaw Nation District 11 Councilman Robert Karr.
