The City of Krebs will have a new mayor, while a $4.7 million bond package for McAlester Public Schools failed. Residents in Latimer County approved a quarter-cent tax increase for county services.

Crowder Public Schools: $265,000 bond for paving, striping, and fencing around the gym parking lot

MPS Superintendent Dr. Robert Steeber said the district will continue to assess their options.

“While the bond initiative did not pass tonight, the needs it addressed remain. Expanding STEM learning opportunities and strengthening safety measures continue to be priorities for McAlester Public Schools. We are grateful to our community for engaging in this process. Our focus now is on assessing our options and identifying practical next steps. We remain committed to moving forward in ways that support student learning, innovation, and safety, and we will continue this work together with purpose.”

State law requires public school bond propositions to be approved by at least 60 percent of voters.

 

Latimer County Proposition One: A quarter-cent sales tax for the establishment, maintenance, and operation of county government, with 1/8 going to the county’s general fund, 1/16 to the County’s Solid Waste Trust Authority, and 1/16 going to the county’s 911 system.
