UPDATE 3:32 p.m: A McAlester man is in custody and has now been formally charged with shooting with intent to kill, and illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
A McAlester man was arrested after a woman was shot outside a residence Monday afternoon, according to the McAlester Police Department.
Officers were called around 1:53 p.m. to the area of North D Street and West Madison Avenue for a reported shooting. When police arrived, they found a female victim suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds in front of a home on the 500 block of W. Madison.
The victim was transported by ambulance to McAlester Regional Hospital for treatment. Investigators said she suffered multiple wounds to her right arm, which medical staff indicated was broken.
Police secured the scene and located a white GMC pickup truck parked near the home with a shattered driver’s side window that officers believed had been struck by a bullet. What appeared to be blood droplets were also found leading away from the vehicle.
Witnesses told officers a man had fled the scene in a black Cadillac Escalade, while another individual remained inside the residence.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers later spoke with a woman who said she received a text message from Jimmy Hobbs, stating he had shot someone. Hobbs was known to live at the residence.
Police made contact with Hobbs inside the home, and he later exited with a woman. Both were taken into custody without incident and transported to the police department for questioning.
Investigators said the witness told officers an argument had occurred inside the house before she heard multiple gunshots. She said she then saw Hobbs holding a small handgun and later heard him say he had intended to shoot a man who had been there, not the woman who was injured.
Detectives later interviewed the victim at the hospital, where she said she and a man had been visiting the residence for about 10 to 15 minutes before Hobbs told them to leave. She said she was sitting in a pickup truck outside when she saw Hobbs holding a handgun through a window and heard three shots before realizing she had been hit.
Police obtained search warrants for the residence and the pickup truck, as well as for Hobbs’ person. A gunshot residue test was performed on Hobbs, and he was booked into the Pittsburg County Jail on complaints of shooting with intent to kill and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.
During a search of the home, investigators recovered a small .22 Magnum revolver from a safe in Hobbs’ bedroom, along with several types of ammunition. Officers said three spent casings were found in the revolver.
A bullet was later recovered from the shirt the victim was wearing at the time of the shooting. Police said its size was consistent with the caliber of the revolver found in the home.
The investigation remains ongoing.
