Woman Faces Felony Charge in Controlled Substance Theft

A McAlester woman is facing a charge of larceny or burglary of a controlled dangerous substance after allegedly picking up prescription medication for another person and failing to return it, according to a police affidavit.

Alicia Danielle Stanford, 40, was arrested following an investigation by the McAlester Police Department.

According to an affidavit filed by Capt. Mickey Virden, the investigation began July 17, 2025, after a woman reported she had undergone surgery and asked Stanford to pick up her prescribed Hydrocodone and Cephalexin from Walmart Pharmacy on July 7. The victim told police Stanford never returned with the medication.

The victim later contacted the pharmacy and was told the prescription had been picked up and that the transaction was captured on camera, the affidavit states. Investigators obtained text messages allegedly sent by Stanford indicating she had picked up the medication and referencing selling the pills, according to the affidavit.

Virden reported he met with a Walmart Pharmacy employee who provided a controlled substance pickup report and photographs from the drive-up window. The captain stated he recognized the person in the images as Stanford.

Court records show Stanford also has other felony cases filed in recent years.

In Pittsburg County case CF-2025-231, filed July 24, 2025, she is charged with uttering a forged instrument and unauthorized use of a credit card. Records show she later entered a drug court plea agreement in that case but was issued a bench warrant in September 2025 after failing to appear.

In a separate case, CF-2023-20, Stanford is charged with uttering a forged instrument. Court records reflect multiple failures to appear and bench warrants issued in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Records indicate she was ordered into drug court in 2025, with sentencing contingent on successful completion of the program.

The larceny/burglary charge in the prescription case remains pending, and she is being held on a $15,000 bond.
