McAlester Man Facing Multiple Felonies After Alleged Kidnapping, Assault

A McAlester man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he assaulted and kidnapped a woman during a domestic violence incident earlier this month.

Gerald Dewayne Sennett, 55, has been charged in Pittsburg County District Court with kidnapping, domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery by strangulation, threatening to perform an act of violence and driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license.

According to an affidavit, police were notified early March 10 of an assault involving two people. Emergency medical personnel were transporting the victim to McAlester Regional Health Center due to extensive injuries when officers began their investigation.

Investigators say the altercation began after the victim returned to a residence on North Coal Creek Road and was unloading groceries. Authorities allege Sennett approached from behind, placed the victim in a chokehold and dragged her to the ground before continuing to strangle her and striking her with a jack handle.

The affidavit states the victim was later forced into a van and driven away while Sennett allegedly threatened to take her into the woods and kill her. She eventually escaped and ran to a nearby residence where she contacted emergency services.

Officers later located Sennett driving near the residence and took him into custody after ordering him out of the vehicle.

Court records show Sennett has prior felony convictions in Pittsburg County, and is being held over on a $185,000 bond.
