McAlester City Council Approves Key Items, Reviews Development Projects

The McAlester City Council approved several items at its Jan. 28, meeting, including minutes from the Jan. 14 meeting, claims for Jan. 8-21, and the Keep McAlester Beautiful 2nd quarter report. Councilors also confirmed the mayor’s appointments of Stephanie Giacomo to the Planning Commission and Valarie Fagundes to the Storm Water Drainage System Advisory Committee.

The council approved the annual utility rate increase, including a 3% landfill fee hike, and postponed three tort claims. They also approved a $731,825 bid for the DWSRF Project #8A and a $15,000 change order for water system improvements.

Economic Development Director Ken Wimer provided updates on key projects, including delays at the airport and potential investments in recycling and solar manufacturing. Councilors also approved sidewalk café permits for Pink Pop. The City Council will meet again in February for their first of two regular monthly meetings.
