Two charged with child neglect, trafficking

Stephen Holmes and Sarah Enriquez

A man and a woman were charged Tuesday after investigators say they allowed three children, all under the age of two, to live in a “filthy home infested with cockroaches and rotting food” that also had marijuana scattered throughout the residence “within reach of the children” along with suspected methamphetamine.

Court records show Sarah Enriquez, 23, Krebs, and Steven Greg Holmes II, 40, McAlester, are each charged with child neglect and trafficking in illegal drugs in Pittsburg County District Court.

Jail records show the pair are each being held Wednesday on a $25,000 bond.

A probable cause affidavit filed in the case states officers from the Krebs Police Department began their investigation into the home after receiving a report of the children being filthy and “seemed as though they had not had a bath in some time.”

During a first attempt to speak with the parents, officers noted “an overwhelming odor coming from the residence,” the report states. Officers were not able to speak with the parents but were able to observe the inside of the home and wrote in the report the home was “very cluttered.”

The affidavit states officers returned the next day with a search warrant to obtain photos of the living situation with officers observing a large number of cockroaches, food lying in the open, along with cockroaches inside the refrigerator and freezer.

After finding marijuana on top of a dresser next to a can of baby formula, officers asked for a second search warrant “for all the marijuana found laying out,” the affidavit states.

During the second search, the police report states marijuana was found in the children’s room, kitchen, living room, hallway and inside the bathroom next to what appeared to be a “changing table.”

In the bedroom, a large plastic container with marijuana plants was found along with a baggie containing 28 grams of suspected methamphetamine, smoking pipes, and cut plastic straws, according to the affidavit.

Officers also found a box of Narcan within a pack and play full of toys, the report said.
