Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office Warns of Jury Duty Scam

The Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office said it received multiple reports Wednesday about a scam involving a caller who falsely identifies himself as Lt. Dawson with the department.

The caller tells individuals they have missed jury duty and claims a warrant has been issued for their arrest. He reportedly provides fake documents bearing the names of the current sheriff and local judges, then instructs victims to pay fees using bitcoin.

The caller also warns recipients not to contact the sheriff’s office or the courthouse.

Authorities emphasized the calls are a scam. The Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office does not contact individuals about warrants by phone, nor does it collect fees through cryptocurrency. Residents are encouraged to contact the court clerk’s office directly to verify the status of any warrants or make legitimate payments.

Sheriff Frankie McClendon addressed the issue in a Facebook post, urging the public not to speak with anyone claiming to represent the department for the purpose of collecting warrant fees.
