A Wilburton woman indicted in federal court for the February 2024 murder of her mother pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder.
Tracy Ann Mannon, 51, was originally indicted in the Eastern District of Oklahoma for murder in Indian Country for the Feb. 26, 2024, death of her mother, Linda Barnes.
Mannon on Monday pled guilty to murder in Indian Country, second degree.
In her petition to enter a plea of guilty, Mannon said she did “willfully and with malice kill Linda Barnes by intentionally striking her with a vacuum cleaner and stabbing her with a knife.”
The agreement goes on to say a recommendation for a sentence was not made and Mannon continues to face punishment up to life in federal prison and a fine of $250,000.
An affidavit filed in the case states during an interview with investigators following her arrest, Mannon admitted to pushing Barnes out the back door and stabbing the woman after she fell to the ground and stabbed her mother “until she was deceased.”
According to the report, Mannon told investigators she attempted to cut up her mother’s body to place inside a plastic container, but couldn’t because the knife was too dull.
“Mannon stated she committed the crime of murder and felt no remorse for her actions,” the affidavit states.
A first-degree murder charge filed against Mannon in Choctaw Nation District Court continues to be held in abeyance until she is sentenced in federal court.
