Pittsburg County Man Killed in UTV, Dump Truck Crash

A 68-year-old man was killed Monday afternoon in a crash involving a utility vehicle and a dump truck in Pittsburg County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the collision occurred just after 3:15 p.m. on State Highway 113, just north of Shady Grove Road, less than 10 miles from Indianola.

Herbert Skinner, of Indianola, was driving a Kawasaki UTV when it collided with a 2007 Freightliner dump truck driven by a McAlester man. Skinner was pronounced dead at the scene by Community EMS at 3:36 p.m.

The dump truck driver was not injured and refused medical treatment at the scene, authorities said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No passengers were involved.

Skinner was a long-time choir teacher at Hartshorne High School.

The school district released the following statement about the loss of Skinner.

“We regret to inform everyone that we lost former HS Choir Director Tony Skinner this week. His family has requested that any former students who would like to join in singing at his funeral services contact Krista Patterson at 918-421-9422. Services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the Shady Grove Baptist Church. Please keep his family in your prayers at this difficult time.”
