McAlester wins vote for Tesla Supercharger location

McAlester will soon be home to a Tesla Supercharger after winning a quarterly contest held by the electric vehicle company.

Tesla began allowing owners the chance to influence where new Supercharger sites will be built in 2022 and now runs the contest quarterly.

McAlester has been a long-sought-after location for a Supercharger since voting began in 2022, according to user posts on Twitter and in Tesla owner forums, as there is no Supercharger along U.S. Highway 69 in Oklahoma.

Other U.S. cities joining McAlester in winning the quarter one 2025 vote are Fredericksburg, TX, Clarksville, TN, Roswell, NM, Lake Havasu City, AZ, Long Beach, CA, Big Creek, GA, Lake Wales, FL, Decatur, IL, and Henderson, NV.

According to Tesla, there are six active Superchargers in Oklahoma with several others in development, including one in Henryetta.

No timeframe has been given for when construction of the Supercharger will begin.
