McAlester Woman Tests Positive for Drugs After Giving Birth

A McAlester woman tested positive for drugs the day after giving birth, prompting an investigation by the Department of Human Services, according to a police report filed May 8.

Officer Curry of the McAlester Police Department responded to McAlester Regional Hospital for a DHS standby call and spoke with a DHS worker. According to reports, the worker stated that the child’s mother, identified as Charity Madden, had tested positive for amphetamines.

Hospital records confirmed that Madden tested positive for both THC and amphetamines the day after delivering her child. When asked about a medical marijuana license, Madden said her card had expired.

During the interview, Madden also told the worker she had last used methamphetamine about five days earlier, stating she had smoked it. Madden is being charged with one count of felony child neglect and is being held on a $50,000 bond.
