The City of McAlester will begin curbside storm debris pickup on Monday, June 23, and is asking residents to start moving tree limbs, brush and other vegetative debris to the curb.
To assist with efficient collection, limbs should be cut to no more than 10 feet in length and laid parallel to the curb. Debris should not block driveways, mailboxes, fire hydrants or utility access points such as gas meters, water meters and manholes.
Although pickup routes are not yet finalized, following placement guidelines will help crews begin work without delay. Residents with the means to transport debris are encouraged to use the city landfill, which has extended its hours.
Starting Monday, June 9, the landfill will be open daily through the weekend to accept tree limbs and vegetation debris from McAlester residents. No trash dumping will be allowed.
Landfill hours:
- June 9–13 (Mon–Fri): 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- June 14–15 (Sat–Sun): 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Charitable or low-cost contractor assistance for seniors, residents with disabilities, or those without transportation is permitted. Contractors must provide the debris origin address at the gate. Commercial haulers may be redirected to preserve access for those most in need.
