McAlester to Celebrate Juneteenth with Ceremony, Games and Fun at Hunter Park


The City of McAlester will host its Juneteenth Jubilee celebration on Thursday, June 19, at Hunter Park, beginning at 6 p.m.

The evening will kick off with an opening ceremony at 6:30 p.m., featuring the posting of the Colors and a prayer, followed by a proclamation reading from Mayor John Few. Regina Turner, President of the Juneteenth Jubilee Committee, is going to deliver a speech on the history of Juneteenth titled, “The Power of Change.”

Coluah Watts-Stanfield along with Turner, and Lacey Sudderth, joined KNED for an interview to share information on the Jubilee. Here is Turner talking about what to expect.

Following the ceremony, the community is invited to enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities starting at 7 p.m., including yard games, bouncy houses, a car show, music, food vendors, and more. Local motorcycle clubs, horses, and additional attractions will also be featured.
