Storm Debris Pick up Underway

The City of McAlester started curbside storm debris pickup on Monday, June 23, 2025, starting along Electric Avenue from Main Street to West Street and working south. Crews will operate from approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day until the debris is cleared.

Residents are encouraged to move vegetative debris—such as tree limbs and brush—to the curb in preparation. For efficient collection, limbs should be cut into sections no longer than 10 feet and placed parallel to the curb. Debris should not block driveways, mailboxes, fire hydrants, or utility access points. Avoid placing debris on or near gas meters, water meters, manholes, telephone pedestals, or other infrastructure. Household garbage and non-vegetative items will not be collected as part of the storm debris cleanup effort.

Due to equipment limitations, City crews will not be able to remove large root balls at this time. However, the city is working with contractors to address their removal in the coming weeks.

The landfill is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Storm debris may be dropped off from 8 a.m. to noon; brush only will be accepted from noon to 3 p.m.

The City acknowledges the efforts of contractors and volunteers helping residents—particularly seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those without transportation—on a charitable or at-cost basis. These helpers may continue using the landfill during extended hours but must provide the address where the debris came from. Contractors hauling from multiple properties or performing standard commercial work may be redirected to alternative disposal sites to ensure access remains available for residents most in need.
