Election Board moves, now hiring election clerk


The Pittsburg County Election Board announced this week that the office has moved once again to a location on Strong Boulevard in McAlester.

Tonya Barnes, Secretary of the Pittsburg County Election Board, said the office is now located at 1609 N. Strong Blvd. Suite 200 in McAlester. The office was previously located at 7 E. Chickasaw in McAlester.

Voters who have questions or concerns should contact the Pittsburg County Election Board at 918-423-3877 or pittsburgcounty@elections.ok.gov. The County Election Board is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Barnes also announced the office is hiring for an election clerk.

Duties of the clerk include:

Assist voters in registering, locating their polling place, and answering questions.

Answering telephone calls and transferring to the appropriate person.

Work with purchasing on supply orders and data entry of all registration applications.

Working with media and social media on press releases and voter information.

“This job consists of many little jobs. Jobs that are not always consistent with daily duties and responsibilities but that will always be in support of the County Election Board Office,” the job posting states. “This position is to assist the County Election Board in all manners that comply with Federal and State Election Laws, and County policies and procedures.”

The salary for the position is $3,250 a month with employer-paid health, retirement, dental, vision, as well as other benefits available.
